The risk of concussions in professional football has been a hot topic in the world of sports and sports medicine in the past few years. Chris Borland, one of the NFL's young stars added fuel to this fiery debate when announced retirement from the San Francisco 49ers at age 24, reports The Washington Post.
"I just honestly want to do what’s best for my health," Mr. Borland told ESPN's "Outside the Lines.”" "From what I've researched and what I've experienced, I don't think it's worth the risk."
Jeff Miller, the NFL's senior VP of health and safety policy said in a statement that he respects Mr. Borland's decision and reiterates football "has never been safer."
