5 things to know about Hospital for Special Surgery's new patient story website

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Hospital for Special Surgery launched a website that includes orthopedic and rheumatologic patient stories.

Patients submit stories to the website, which is the largest of its kind. There are more than 400 searchable stories on the site, titled "Back in the Game."

Here are five key points:

1. The number of stories is expected to grow quickly. Hospital for Special Surgery treats nearly 30,000 patients annually from 105 countries and all 50 states.

2. Stories include average patients as well as professional athletes, including Cleveland Cavaliers' Kevin Love, who underwent hand surgery by Michelle Carlson, MD.

3. Visitors can share the stories on social media and the site goes by the hashtag #BackintheGame.

4. The site aims to show how HSS can bring both professional athletes as well as average patients back to their normal activities. It also taps into the patient's desire to share their stories of recovery.

5. The stories are searchable by the patient's hometown, so visitors can find others near them who have been treated at HSS.
