Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Asheesh Bedi of the University of Michigan

Along with pulling double-duty as a consultant for the NFL and NHL players' associations, Asheesh i, MD, is the Harold and Helen W. Gehring Early Career Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan, where he also serves as team physician for several sports teams.

Dr. Bedi graduated at the top of his University of Michigan Medical School class. He stayed in Ann Arbor to pursue a residency in orthopedic surgery. He followed that up with a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medical College in New York for two years, until 2009. He has since pursued additional training in arthroscopic hip surgery for joint preservation.

 

In 2010, Dr. Bedi won the Neer Award of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and the Cabaud Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He has authored over 100 articles, chapters and peer-reviewed publications on shoulder, elbow, knee, and hip injuries in athletes. His research interests include ACL injuries, hip injuries in athletes, rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, meniscus tears and shoulder arthritis.
