Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict is undergoing microfracture surgery in his knee, performed by Neal ElAttrache, MD, according to an NFL report.
Dr. ElAttrache performed the surgery to correct cartilage damage on the side of Mr. Burfict's knee. Its possible Mr. Burfict will be able to return to full-strength for training camp.
Dr. ElAttrache is a busy surgeon, having recently consulted with Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who decided to undergo shoulder surgery later this week after speaking with Dr. ElAttrache and his colleague Steve Lombardo, MD. Both Drs. ElAttrache and Lombardo are members of Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.
Dr. ElAttrache previously performed surgery on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who will appear in the Super Bowl this weekend, as well as famed pitcher Zack Greinke and Texans star Jadeveon Clowey.
