Dr. Lee Kaplan helps son follow father's legacy at University of Miami

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Lee Kaplan, MD, the University of Miami's team physician, played a key role in letting a son follow in his father's footsteps — on the football team — the Miami Herald reports.

Scott Patchan, a four-star tight end recruit, needed reconstructive surgery on his right knee in order to join the same team his father, Matt, won national titles with in 1983 and 1987 as a left tackle.

Scott tore his ACL last August during the first game of his senior season. His parents took him to University of Miami Hospital, where Dr. Kaplan performed the surgery. Scott is now set to join the team.

Dr. Lee, a specialist in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery, serves as chief of UHealth Sports Medicine, a division of the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He's board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
