The Philadelphia 76ers partnered with Rothman Institute, who will provide the official orthopedic and urgent care needs for the team.
Rothman Institute is a Philadelphia-based orthopedics practice with several locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The practice includes many sports medicine- and spine-focused physicians who have served as physicians and team physicians for professional athletes, including the Philadelphia Eagles.
"The partnership positions us as one of the first practices in the country providing care for all four of the major professional sports teams in one city," said Rothman Institute President Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD. "Professional sports medicine has a major trickle-down effect. The procedures, research and technology developed in elite-level sports medicine directly translates to our everyday patients. We look forward to delivering that level of care in our office on a daily basis and anticipate a successful partnership with the Sixers."
Here are five key points about the partnership:
1. The Rothman Institute will be the official team physicians for the 76ers in addition to the official orthopedic and urgent care providers.
2. Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, which is closely aligned with Rothman Institute physicians, became the official hospital of the 76ers.
3. The partnership includes the 76ers' new Tagboard feature, presented by Rothman Institute and Jefferson Hospital. Tagboard allows fans at home games to use "#SixersLIVE" for social media posts for a chance to contribute to the game in the arena and have their photos and comments on the team's video boards.
4. Rothman Institute also became a Presenting Partner of the Youth Athletic Program, which includes all youth basketball games played on the court during the pregame and half time events. Participating groups receive co-branded Sixers and Rothman Institute drawstring bags during this season.
5. Rothman Institute is also presenting the Sixers Camps program to host basketball and dance camps throughout the summer and the annual Holiday Hoops program in December. Participating campers will receive Rothman Institute giveaways and hear presentations from experts about health, wellness and injury prevention.
