The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons recently honored Robert D. D'Ambrosia, MD, for his work to advance diversity in orthopedics.

Dr. D'Ambrosia received the 2014 Diversity Award from AAOS during the annual meeting earlier this month. He is a professor and chair of the department of orthopedics at the University of Colorado. In that role, he helped shape the School of Medicine's Diversity Policy to increase student diversity 30 percent.

Dr. D'Ambrosia was also instrumental in ensuring the University's sports medicine faculty included female practitioners. He served as the president of AAOS from 1999 to 2000.
