Dr. Brian Cole Leads 1st US Study of Stem Cell Treatment for Knee Cartilage Damage

Brian Cole, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Rush University Medical Center, is the principle investigator on the first clinical study of Cartistem in the United States, according to a News-Medical report. Cartistem is a stem cell therapy designed to repair knee cartilage. It is manufactured from mesenchymal stem cells, according to the report, and mixed with hyaluronan. The two-year study plans to enroll 12 participants.

Dr. Cole is the head of Rush's Cartilage Restoration Center.
