An article recently published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine outlined several factors that increase the risk of muscle injuries in soccer players. Researchers analyzed 1,401 athletes from European countries who sustained 2,123 injuries during play. They found that having previous injuries, age and position were all associated with injury risk. They also found quadriceps were more likely injured during the preseason while other injury rates increased after the season began.
