The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in Huntington, W.Va., has been awarded $50,000 for an orthopedic research project, according to a report by The Parthenon.
The grant was given by the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
Researchers at MU's School of Medicine developed a model to study how the application of heat on the body's surface can stimulate bone elongation. They are looking at possible clinical treatments to lengthen bones in children with growth issues or orthopedic trauma using noninvasive methods, according to Maria Serrat, PhD, an assistant professor in the department of anatomy.
