Study: TLIF Helpful for Lumbar Scoliosis Patients

Spine

Selective segmental transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion can be used to correct lumbar lordosis, segmental deformity and translation, which means it can have good outcomes for patients with degenerative lumbar scoliosis, according to an article published in Spine.

Researchers examined 46 patients with degenerative lumbar scoliosis who were treated with selective TLIF. All patients were followed for 42 months on average after surgery.

The patients experienced a correction rate of the Cobb angle at 67.8 percent. The correction rate of the lumbar lordosis angle was 44.4 percent. After TLIF, the segmental lordosis angle increased and there was a correction rate of 80 percent. Vertebral translation was also corrected during the procedure.
