Study: Centroid Method Best for Measuring Scoliosis

Spine

The centroid method is more reliable for measuring scoliosis in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis than the Cobb method, according to a study published in Spine.

Researchers examined 60 whole spine postero-anterior radiographs to compare the reliability of the Cobb method to the centroid methods in AIS patients. The inter- and intraclass coefficients were higher in the centroid than in the Cobb method, although both were in good range.

The mean absolute difference values were higher in the Cobb method and less than five degrees in comparison. The ICCs for both regular and immature radiograms were higher in the centroid method than the Cobb method.
