Houston neurologists Pankaj Satija, MD, and his wife Monika Ummat, MD, have practiced in the United States for more than 10 years, according to a report in the Houston Chronicle. Customs and Border Protections officials gave the couple —immigrants from India working and living legally in the United States — 24 hours to leave the country in March. Medscape: Orthopedists top list again for highest earners — What do they make?
Medscape surveyed more than 19,200 physicians in more than 27 specialties on their salaries. The survey revealed an average annual full-time compensation of $294,000 for all physicians. While primary care physicians checked in at $217,000, specialists reported a 46 percent jump to an average compensation of $316,000. Orthopedists topped the list, earning an average annual physician compensation of $489,000.
$75M HealthPartners Neuroscience Center opens in Minnesota
HealthPartners Neuroscience Center, a $75 million 130,000-square-foot freestanding center, opened its doors in St. Paul, Minn., on April 3. The HealthPartners Neuroscience Center brings clinical trials, physical rehabilitation, patient diagnosis and lab research all under one roof. The center offers outpatient services for nearly all neurological conditions, from stroke to spinal cord injuries.
Implanet intends to transfer share listing from Euronext to Alternext Paris
France-based Implanet plans to transfer the listing of its shares from the Paris-based Euronext regulated market to the Alternext Paris multilateral trading facility. The switch would put Implanet shares on a market more appropriate for its size and offer a better regulatory framework, according to the company. The Alternext Paris market is suited to small and midcaps.
Medicrea's sees 6% sales growth in FY 2016
France-based Medicrea reported 6 percent sales growth from 2015's $29.7 million to $31.41 million in 2016. UNiD Patient-Specific Rods sales were up 106 percent in 2016, with over 1,100 procedures carried out during the year. The company continued developing titanium 3-D printing manufacturing processes for patient-specific interbody cages and corpectomy implants and expects to market the products in the United States and Europe in 2017.
SpineGuard reports 23% revenue growth in Q1 2017
France-based SpineGuard reported 23 percent growth in its first quarter 2017 revenue. The company's global revenue in the Q1 grew 20 percent over the Q1 global revenue in 2016. SpineGuard sold 2,397 units in the Q1 2017 compared to the 2,134 sold in Q1 of 2016.
SI-BONE reports 50th peer-reviewed publication of iFuse Implant paper
San Jose, Calif.-based SI-BONE reported the 50th peer-reviewed publication of its iFuse paper. The paper found efficacy, durability and opioid reduction to be greater in the iFuse implant group. Daniel Cher, MD, SI-BONE vice president of clinical affairs and study co-author, said the study reflects SI joint fusion with iFuse implants yields better outcomes compared to non-surgical management.
Dr. Michael Fehlings to head 1st Canadian site for InVivo's cervical spinal cord injury study
Toronto Western Hospital represents the first Canadian site for San Diego-based InVivo Therapeutics' cervical spinal cord injury study. Michael Fehlings, MD, PhD, will serve as the site's principal investigator for the cervical spinal cord injury study. Dr. Fehlings also serves as the site's principal investigator for InVivo's INSPIRE study.
