SpineHope sponsors Costa Rica medical mission for 11 pediatric spine surgeries: 5 highlights

The SpineHope Foundation sponsored a medical mission trip to offer spine surgeries for San José, Costa Rica-based National Children's Hospital patients, according to The Tico Times News.

Here are five highlights:

 

1. Four surgeons along with anesthesiologists, nurses and other medical personnel provided spine services to 11 patients.

 

2. The SpineHope Foundation first sent medical professionals to Costa Rica in 2012. The foundation has sent groups to Costa Rica five times since then.

 

3. The performed spine surgeries each took about eight hours.

 

4. The medical group also provided follow-up exams for patients they'd treated previously and recommended treatment plans.

 

5. Dr. Jorge Alpízar, who serves as director of the hospital's orthopedics department, commented the SpineHope missions offer immense benefit to Costa Rica.
