'Spine dislocation' diagnoses most disproportionately common in these 5 states

Amino conducted an analysis of every injury diagnosis in its database between 2012 and 2016.

The analysts divided ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes into approximately 270 sets and identified the injuries in laymen's terms. Amino found 244 million health insurance claims in the time period. The researchers calculated the distribution of those claims nationally and in every state, and compared state distributions to national distributions to ascertain which states experienced disproportionate injuries.

The researchers emphasize "these are not the most common injuries in each state — that's bruising or open wounds nearly everywhere — but rather, injuries that are disproportionately frequent."

These five states have disproportionately common spine dislocation diagnoses, ordered alphabetically.

1. Minnesota

2. South Dakota

3. Vermont

4. Washington

5. Wisconsin
