University of Montana searches for new Neural Injury Center director with SCI expertise: 5 insights

Missoula-based University of Montana is seeking a spinal cord injury researcher to lead its Neural Injury Center in the College of Health Professions and Biomedical Sciences, according to Missoulian.

Here are five insights:

 

1. The $5 million Neural Injury Center doesn't have a director or independent research facility, currently. The previous director retired in summer 2016.

 

2. University of Montana is currently considering Candace Floyd, PhD, of University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, to lead the center.

 

3. At the University of Alabama, Dr. Floyd heads a team researching SCI and traumatic brain injury.

 

4. Discussions are swirling about opening a porcine research lab within the center, but the university has not confirmed this.

 

5. Currently, the center focuses on helping veterans with their medical conditions.
