Maimonides Medical Center names Dr. John Houten director of spinal neurosurgery & neurotrauma: 7 highlights

New York City-based Maimonides Medical Center appointed John K. Houten, MD, the new director of spinal neurosurgery and neurotrauma.

Here are seven highlights:

 

1. New York State recently approved Maimonides Medical Center as an adult and pediatric trauma center.

 

2. A board-certified neurosurgeon, Dr. Houten has more than two decades of experience in the field.

 

3. Dr. Houten specializes in advanced image-guided techniques to treat patients with spinal injuries or conditions. His research focuses on spinal degenerative disease.

 

4. He developed a spinal neurosurgery program at Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Boca Raton (Fla.) Regional Hospital.

 

5. Dr. Houton previously served as the chief of spinal neurosurgery at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City.

 

6. He is an ad hoc reviewer for Neurosurgery and Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, among other journals.

 

7. Dr. Houten completed his spine surgery fellowship at New York University School of Medicine.
