St. Teresa Medical names Texas Back Institute's Dr. Richard Guyer to scientific advisory board: 7 things to know

Richard Guyer, MD, joined St. Paul, Minn.-based St. Teresa Medical's scientific advisory board.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. A board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon, Dr. Guyer will offer his guidance as St. Teresa Medical begins its global clinical trial on SURGICLOT, a dissolvable hemostatic dressing for orthopedic surgery.

 

2. Dr. Guyer is a founder of Texas Back Institute in Plano, where he currently is the president. Dr. Guyer also serves as Texas Back Institute Research Foundation's board of director's chairman as well as director of its spine surgery fellowship program.

 

3. A leader in minimally invasive spine surgery as well as lumbar and cervical disc replacement, Dr. Guyer's research focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of degenerative spinal conditions.

 

4. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and 45 chapters on spine topics.

 

5. A member of North American Spine Society, Dr. Guyer is also affiliated with the Cervical Spine Research Society, International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine and International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery. He served as president of NASS from 2006 to 2007.

 

6. He is on the board of directors of the American Board of Spinal Surgery.

 

7. Dr. Guyer completed one spine fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and another spine fellowship in Long Beach, Calif.
