Dr. Charles Theofilos lectures on regenerative stem cell therapy: 5 insights

Spine

Charles S. Theofilos, MD, of The Spine Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., delivered a lecture on regenerative stem cell therapy in Wellington, Fla. on Feb. 4.

Here are five insights:

1. The board-certified neurosurgeon treats osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease and back pain with regenerative stem cell therapy.

2. For treatment, he uses a centrifuge to separate platelet-rich plasma from the patient's blood. He then harvests stem cells from the patient's hip and injects them into the damaged spinal disc. The final step involves injecting the PRP and proteins into the disc to enhance healing.

3. Dr. Theofilos will speak on the connection between lifestyle and chronic back pain on Feb. 12.

4. He completed a neurology fellowship at Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital.

5. "The first event has gone so well, and we're really looking forward to the next event where we can discuss ways not only to treat back pain, but also to prevent it," said Dr. Theofilos.
