Rhode Island Hospital offers new spinal cord stimulator: 5 observations

Spine

Providence-based Rhode Island Hospital now offers a new spinal treatment for patients suffering from chronic back pain, according to Taunton Daily Gazette.

Here are five observations:

1. Medical director Alexios Carayannopoulos, DO, implanted the Nevro Corp spinal cord stimulator at the hospital's Comprehensive Spine Center. He is the first physician in the area to implant the device.

2. The Nevro Corp eliminates the tingling and vibration sensations associated with older spinal cord stimulators.

3. The stimulator, which the FDA approved in May 2015, operates at a higher frequency.

4. The device underwent 11 clinical trials around the nation, demonstrating excellent outcomes.

5. Patients with the implanted device can still operate motor vehicles because they experience no tingling sensation.
