Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York named Constantinos G. Hadjipanayis, MD, chair of the department of neurosurgery.

1. Dr. Hadjipanayis has also been named director of neurosurgical oncology for New York-based Mount Sinai Health System and director of the Brain Tumor Nanotechnology Laboratory in the Tisch Cancer Institute at Mount Sinai.

 

2. He has a professional interest in microsurgery and radiosurgery for skull base and spinal cord tumors.

 

3. He was the first surgeon in the United States to perform fluorescence-guided surgery for malignant gliomas with the use of a 5-aminolevulinic acid drug called Gliolan.

 

4. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he also earned his PhD in the department of molecular genetics and biochemistry.
