Here are eight spine surgeons who recently received awards or promotions.

SmartCEO Magazine named Alexander Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, CEO of the Year in Philadelphia. Dr. Vaccaro assumed the Rothman Institute President position in 2014.

 

The Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery awarded Neel Anand, MD, clinical professor of surgery and director of spine trauma at Cedars-Sinai Spine in Los Angeles, a the "Global Forum Best Paper Award."

 

Spinal Deformity magazine included a paper by spine surgeon Fred Sweet, MD, of Rockford (Ill.) Spine Center, in its 50th Anniversary edition. Dr. Sweet's paper focused on a two-year study of the transforaminal anterior release for the treatment of fixed sagittal imbalance and segmental kyphosis.

 

George J. Counelis, MD, received the Patients' Choice Award for his commitment to neuro-oncology and neurosurgery.

 

Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond named Alex Valadka, MD, as chair of the department of neurosurgery.

 

Ryan S. Reeves, MD, and Eric J. Coligado, MD, of Spine Team Texas have been included in MSP Communications exclusive list of esteemed physicians.

 

The International Association of HealthCare Professionals welcomes neurological surgeon Anthony J.G. Alastra, MD, to its organization. Dr. Alastra will be published in The Leading Physicians of the World.
