The Alliance for Balanced Pain Management holds National Summit — 5 key points

The Alliance for Balanced Pain Management held its second National Summit on ways to increase access to integrated pain management.

Here are five key points:

 

1. The Summit also addressed the responsible use of prescription pain medicines to enhance patient safety and minimize abuse.

 

2. It took place on Nov. 12 and Nov. 13.

 

3. Bob Twillman, PhD, executive director for the American Academy of Pain Management, said, "Patient safety, responsible medicine use and access to appropriate care – such as physical therapy and rehabilitation, psychological counseling, complementary care and medicine – are important components of balanced pain management that benefit both people with pain and society at large."

 

4. AfBPM members say more educational measures need to be taken to curb opioid misuse and abuse.

 

5. Formed in 2014, AfBPM is comprised of 24 healthcare advocacy groups, patient organizations, industry representatives and other stakeholders.
