Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond named Alex Valadka, MD, as chair of the department of neurosurgery.

1. Most recently, Dr. Valadka served as the chairman and CEO of the Seton Brain and Spine Institute in Austin, Texas.
2. He has served as an investigator or co-investigator on 18 research grants.
3. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Neurotrauma and a section editor for Neurosurgery.
4. He succeeds Harold F. Young, MD, who is the founding chair of the neurosurgery department.
