Here are nine spine surgeons and neurosurgeons in the news this past week.

Orthopedic spine surgeon Carl Giordano, MD, has returned to work at Atlantic Spine Specialists in Morristown, N.J., after surviving a single-engine plane crash on Long Island in August.

 

Spinal Deformity magazine included a paper by spine surgeon Fred Sweet, MD, of Rockford (Ill.) Spine Center, in its 50th Anniversary edition. Dr. Sweet's paper focused on a two-year study of the transforaminal anterior release for the treatment of fixed sagittal imbalance and segmental kyphosis.

 

Jefferson Community Health Center in Fairbury, Neb., welcomed board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon Steven J. Volin, MD, to its team.

 

Tampa, Fla.-based Laser Spine Institute added neurosurgeon R.J. Meagher, MD, to its Philadelphia facility.

 

Orthopedic spine surgeon Kate McCarthy, MD, of Arkansas Specialty Orthopaedics in Little Rock, strives to interest young women in orthopedics through the Perry Initiative.

 

Santa Rosa Medical Group in Milton, Fla., added orthopedic surgeon Todd Prochnow, DO, to its physician team.

 

George J. Counelis, MD, of John Muir Health in Walnut Creek, Calif., received the Patients' Choice Award for his commitment to neuro-oncology and neurosurgery.

 

Neurosurgeon Lincoln Jimenez, MD, now practices at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

 

Kevin McCarthy, MD, of the Spine Center at Bone & Joint Clinic of Baton Rouge, La., is performing iFuse surgery, involving three titanium implants placed on the SI joint.
