Dr. Michael Gleiber launches Concierge Spine Surgery
West Palm Beach, Fla.-based spine surgeon Michael Gleiber, MD, launched the Concierge Spine Surgery model to accommodate patients traveling for their medical care. Dr. Gleiber's staff will help medical tourists with travel and accommodation arrangements.

 

NuVasive sees 5.6% revenue increase for 2015 Q3
San Diego-based NuVasive reported its third quarter 2015 financial results ending on Sept. 30, 2015. The company's revenue increased to $200.5 million, which is a revenue growth of 7.8 percent on a constant currency basis. The gross profit hit $151.4 million and the gross margin was 75.5 percent, and the total operating expenses were $123.3 million.

 

Dr. Satish Sharma to serve at North American Spine's Las Vegas location
Dallas-based North American Spine plans to expand to Las Vegas. Satish Sharma, MD, will provide services at the Red Rock Surgery Center and hold patient visits at the Advanced Pain Management Center. He holds certifications in anesthesiology and pain management.

 

Disc degeneration occurs in patients with greater L4 tilt, after scoliosis spinal fusion
A new study published in Spinal Deformity examines lumbar degeneration after spinal fusion in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. There was disc degeneration in 48 percent of the patients 10 years after surgery, with the most common location for disc degeneration reported at L5/S1. The frequency of disc degeneration increased with lower instrumented vertebra placement.

 

Implanet Q3 revenue jumps 42%; Spine soars 101%
The company's spine line, JAZZ, revenue doubled over the quarter — up 101 percent.  The spine sales accounted for 47 percent of the total sales, compared with 24 percent of total sales in the third. The spine revenue in the first nine months was up 76 percent over the same period last year.

 

North America dominates spine surgery devices market
Europe holds the next largest share of the spine surgery devices market, behind North America, based on a Transparency Market Research report. Asia is expected to witness a rapid growth due to an increasing population, rising awareness of technologies and increasing per capita income of hospitals. Startup costs and complex machines are obstacles to the growth of the spine surgery devices market.

 

Restoring motion in paralyzed patients with brain chip
Researchers from San Diego State University, University of Washington in Seattle and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, received a $15 million grant to continue their brain chip development. The brain chip is designed to reverse the paralyzing effects of traumatic spinal cord injuries.

 

$14.5M Nebraska North Platte Health Pavilion opens with new spine center
The North Platte (Neb.) Health Pavilion opened in mid-October. The second floor of the building includes the spine center, neurology and pain management, as well as orthopedics and pediatrics.
