Dr. Sanjay Khurana comments on new traumatic spine injury screw — 5 highlights

Spine

Orthopedic spine surgeon Sanjay Khurana, MD, of DISC Sports & Spine Center in Los Angeles, discussed the benefits of Eragny, France-based Safe Orthopaedics' Auto-Adjust pedicle surgical screw.

Here are five highlights:

1. A multi-axial screw of rods, the Auto-Adjust pedicle surgical screw is a fixed-head screw intended to realign and support the spine.

2. Safe Orthopaedics designed the screw to behave like a spinal fusion procedure. The device has single used instruments, so it is available immediately.

3. Eight spine procedures in France and the Netherlands have used the screw, so far.

4. Dr. Khurana sees promise in the device and said, "Treating traumatic spine injuries successfully is all in the timing…a tool that is available for use at a moment's notice is incredibly helpful."

5. Dr. Khurana specializes in minimally invasive and robotic spine surgery, with a focus on degenerative disc disease, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, sociology and spinal deformity, spinal instability, spine trauma, spine tumors and spondylolisthesis.
