Neurosurgeons make $403k on average
Experience level of neurosurgeons affects their pay. Neurosurgeons with five years of experience make an average of $330,000, while neurosurgeons with 20 years of experience or more make an average of $490,000.

Adult scoliosis surgery recovery better for older patients
A new study published in Spine examines the recovery time for adults undergoing spinal deformity surgery. The researchers predicted the recovery process would be more difficult for older patients, but found it was harder for younger patients. The recovery process was also better for patients with high disability.

Ellipse Technologies' MAGnetic Expansion Control spinal bracing and distraction system has treated more than 2,000 patients. The system is designed for young patients with early onset scoliosis as a non-invasive, adjustable distraction technology. In the past 12 months more than 150 new surgeons began using the system.

 

SpineGuard sells 1k units in Q3 in the United States
SpineGuard reported third quarter revenue was up 45 percent. SpineGuard is preparing a CE mark for the DSG Screw in collaboration with partners and hopes the first surgery will be performed before the year ends. PediGuard sold 5,580 units in the first nine months of the year, up from 4,481 in the first nine months of last year.

 

NuVasive Spine Foundation surpasses $18M: More patients to receive spine surgery globally
NuVasive Spine Foundation received $18.4 million in contributions since its start in 2009. So far, the foundation has funded 80 surgical mission trips to 28 countries, including Kenya, Belize and India. The company has also donated about $14.8 million in surgical products.

 

Asia to see greatest growth in global neurosurgery market
North America dominates the global neurosurgery market, followed by Europe. The Asia neurosurgery market is expected to grow rapidly, due to increasing government funding, rising awareness of neurological disorders and increasing healthcare infrastructure. Costly equipment, regulatory requirements, and lack of reimbursements pose obstacles for growth.

 

Maine Medical opens $40M spine & brain expansion
Based in Portland, Maine Medical Center opened its new $40 million brain and spine wing, expanding 41, 361 square feet and rising two stories. There are five operating rooms, in which typical surgeries will include brain tumor removals, aneurysm treatment, spine surgeries and neck fusions.
