A VA Spinal Cord Injury Center in Waltham, Mass., has experienced positive results with the EarlySense Monitoring System.
The center obtained the results from the monitoring of 1,150 patients on the EarlySense System during a one year period.
Here are five things to know:
1. The EarlySense Monitoring System monitors heart rate, respiratory rate and motion, using a contact-free sensor under a mattress or within a cushion.
2. The system's continuous monitoring has allowed healthcare professionals at the center to detect when patients start showing early signs of deterioration.
3. The center achieved more than a 60 percent decrease in medical response team activations.
4. Code Blue Activations decreased by 50 percent and ICU transfers decreased by 40 percent.
5. Mortality after MRT/Code Activations decreased by 83 percent.
"There are at-risk patients and it is vital to protect their clinical progress," said Tim O'Malley, president of EarlySense. "A reduction of 80 percent in mortality following major deteriorations, is a breakthrough in quality of care which the professional team at the SCI Center should be applauded for."
