Ervie "Bud" Hawley and his wife Carolyn Hawley gave $1 million to Danbury (Conn.) Hospital to create the Ervie and Carolyn Hawley Endowed Chair in Orthopaedic Spine Surgery.
Here are five points:
1. The Hawley Endowed Chair will help with educational and technological advancement in spine surgery.
2. This is the seventh endowed chair at Western Connecticut Health Network, the parent company of Danbury Hospital.
3. David L. Kramer, MD, is the inaugural recipient of the Hawley Endowed Chair. He is the medical director of The Spine Center at Danbury Hospital.
4. A fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, Dr. Kramer specializes in degenerative conditions of the cervical and lumbar spine, spinal deformity correction and complex revision spine surgery.
5. Danbury Hospital is among Connecticut's top hospitals for its annual number of spine surgeries.
"Everyone is going to use the hospital at some point, and we believe that if you can help, you should," said Bud Hawley. "It really benefits the entire community. It's the right thing to do."
