4 things to know about AANS' Neurosurgery Awareness Month

Spine

The American Association of Neurological Surgeons observes Neurosurgery Awareness Month in August every year.

Here are four things to know:

1. In previous years, Neurosurgery Awareness Month focused on causes and prevention of traumatic brain injury and back pain as well as injury prevention.

2. This year, it will focus on neurosurgeons.

3. The AANS will distribute materials that look at the men and women involved in neurosurgical practice throughout the month.

4. Featured in the materials are G. Edward Vates, MD, PhD, FAANS, who works with students at the University of Rochester Medical Center; and members of the Boop family who will soon boast three generations of neurosurgeons.
