Nitin Khanna, MD, of the Spine Center Specialists, a division of orthopedic Specialists of Northwest Indiana, recently presented his research at an international conference.

Here are five things to know about the presentation:

 

1. Dr. Khanna presented his research at the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery annual meeting earlier this year in San Diego. The presentation was well-received by spine surgeons from around the world.

 

2. He collected data from four institutions around the United States to demonstrate low complication rates with MAS PLIF minimally invasive lumbar spine stabilization technique.

 

3. The study also found there was a decreased length of stay with the MAS PLIF minimally invasive lumbar spine stabilization technique.

 

4. Dr. Khanna has performed this procedure for his patients in Indiana for the past three years.

 

5. There is ongoing research on this procedure collected to demonstrate the advantages over standard open techniques.
