George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, GW Hospital and The GW Medical Faculty Associates appointed Raj Rao, MD, department of orthopedic surgery chair.
Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Rao has been vice chairman in the department of orthopedic surgery and professor of orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
2. Last year, he was appointed chair of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Advisory Panel on Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Devices and serves on the board of directors for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a previous board member of the North American Spine Society.
3. In his new role, Dr. Rao will position the orthopedic department for clinical and research growth. The department is already known for high standards in patient care and a strong residency program.
4. Dr. Rao will also expand the orthopedic department's presence and take advantage of new clinical facilities located in The GW Medical Faculty Associates in Washington, D.C.
5. Dr. Rao also has experience advocating for physicians on Capitol Hill and has published several papers on spinal biomechanics, injuries, biology of spinal fusion and gait analyses in patients with spinal disorders.
