Here are eight spine surgeons who were recently named to leadership positions at their hospital, or joining a new hospital in a leadership role.

Mount Sinai Health System and Mount Sinai Hospital named Andrew Hecht, MD, chief of spine surgery. He will continue as director of the Mount Sinai Spine Center of Mount Sinai Doctors.

 

The University of Rochester Medical Center named Paul T. Rubery, MD, chairman of the department of orthopedics. He has been acting chair since September 2014 and previously led the spine surgery division since 1999 as well as director of the Strong Health Spine Center since 2000.

 

Hospital for Special Surgery named Frank Schwab, MD, the new chief of spine service. He was previously the chief of spinal deformity at the New York University's Hospital for Joint Diseases and he will replace Frank Cammisa, MD.

 

Texas Children's Hospital in Houston named John Dormans, MD, the new chief of orthopedics. He was previously the chief of orthopedic surgery at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and president of the medical staff and president of Children's Surgical Associates.

 

New York-Presbyterian Hospital named Lawrence Lenke, MD, surgeon-in-chief of the spine hospital at New York-Presbyterian/Allen and director of spinal deformity surgery at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

 

Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital named Ziya Gokaslan, MD, chief of neurosurgery. He also became the chairman of the neurosurgery department at Alpert Medical School after leaving his post as director of the Neurosurgical Spine Center and vice chairman of neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore.

 

New York-Presbyterian/Allen named Daniel Riew, MD, director of cervical spine surgery.

 

New York Presbyterian/Allen named Ronald Lehman, MD, the director of degenerative and minimally invasive spine surgery. He previously practiced at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine.
