The second International PEEK Meeting will be held this week in Washington, D.C.

Invibio Biomaterial Solutions sponsors the event, which brings together engineers, scientists, regulators and clinicians from academia, industry and government agencies to discuss PEEK. Steve Kurtz, PhD, of the Implant Research Center at Drexel University organizes the meeting and serves as chairman.

Projects presented at the meeting focus on PEEK-based orthopedic bearings, PEEK composites for bone on-growth, advances in PEEK rods for artificial disc replacement and the advances in biologic research of PEEK wear debris.

"The last few years have seen fast accelerating global interest in the use of high-performance implantable PEEK polymers for medical devices," said Medical Business Unit Director at Invibio John Devine. "The International PEEK meeting, which Invibio is proud to sponsor, not only gives researchers a cross-sector forum for sharing and discussing the latest advances in their R&D, it also gives our customers a better understanding of how PEEK-based compounds and processing techniques are enabling a quantum leap in the efficacy and quality of today's medical implants and radically enhancing their therapeutic outcomes."

The workshop is organized in collaboration with FDA scientists.
