Dr. Tenner Guillaume among 1st in the region to use MAGEC rods for pediatric scoliosis

Spine

Tenner Guillaume, MD, of Gillette-Children's Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul, Minn., is one of the first few surgeons in the region who has implanted MAGEC rods in pediatric scoliosis patients, according to a Star Tribune report.

Dr. Guillaume, an orthopedic spine surgeon, recently began using Ellipse Technologies' MAGEC rods. The rods are magnetically controlled after being implanted into childrens' backs. This eliminates the need for frequent surgeries to adjust rod length, as was the case with traditional rods.

In the United States, around 300 children have had MAGEC rods implanted, including 10 at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare, according to the report.
