Why Dr. Alexander Vaccaro went for an MBA

Why are physicians seeking business degrees?

Spine surgeon Alexander Vaccaro, MD, was named president of Rothman Institute in Philadelphia last year, and is currently earning his MBA at Temple University online, according to a News Works report. He is responsible for developing a business model and plan for the practice and can now look at these decisions from a financial perspective.

There are weekend executive programs and online classes to make earning a business degree easier for busy physicians. The business degree also helps with the front office management and can give physicians a background beyond just medicine.

Some physicians are launching start-up companies or other ventures in addition to their clinical work, or leave their clinical work to focus on new projects, often still in the healthcare field.
