Houston Orthopedic and Spine Hospital in Bellaire, Texas, was renamed Memorial Hermann Orthopedic & Spine Hospital, and it adds to orthopedic and spine services offered by the health system's three Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institutes and seven Memorial Hermann Joint Centers.

Vertos MILD clinical trial reaches 300 enrollees
The MiDAS ENCORE study gathering data on minimally invasive lumbar decompression reached full enrollment. In the study patients either receive Vertos' MILD procedure or epidural steroid injections. MILD is designed for patients with lumbar spinal stenosis that result in nerve root compression.

Study compares hybrid and open adult spinal deformity surgery
In the study, patients either underwent the hybrid surgical approach with minimally invasive lateral interbody fusion with open posterior instrumented fusion or the circumferential minimally invasive surgical approach. There were an average of 3.6 interbody fusions performed in the hybrid group. In the circumferential MIS group, there were four interbody fusions performed on average.

CMS proposes rule to shorten MU reporting to 90 days for next 2 years
CMS released a proposed rule that would change reporting requirements for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Program to a 90-day period instead of the current one-year reporting period. The proposed rule seeks to better align current measures of meaningful use stage 1 and stage 2 with the proposed meaningful use stage 3 requirements.
