Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa wins Cortes de Cadiz Prize in Spain

Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa, MD, was awarded the Cortes de Cadiz Prize in the surgery category by the city council of Cadiz, Spain, according to a News-Medical report.

Dr. Quinones-Hinojosa is director of Brain Tumor Surgery Program and a professor of neurosurgery, neuroscience and oncology at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore. He has won a number of awards over the course of his career, including the Voices Against Brain Cancer's Gary Lichtenstein Humanitarian Award in 2014.

 

Dr. Quinones-Hinojosa won the award not only for his contributions to the field of medicine but also for his "moving life experience," judges said, referring to his journey from life as a farm laborer to neurosurgeon, according to the report.
