The University of Maryland Memorial Hospital Foundation honored Khalid Kurtom, MD, a neurosurgeon with Chesapeake Neurological Surgery, as an "Everyday Hero," according to a Star Democrat report.

Dr. Kurtom was nominated with a few other colleagues for treating a patient with a brain tumor. Physicians are nominated by patients, providing patients the opportunity to recognize their specialists. Through the program, patients make a financial donation to the UM Memorial Hospital Foundation in the name of those honored.

Dr. Kurtom has a special interest in treating primary and metastatic brain tumors and spinal cord and pituitary tumors. He earned his medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency. His additional training includes a fellowship at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders & Stroke.
