The Keck Hospital of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles has become another site for the InVivo Therapeutics Neuro-Spinal Scaffold Clinical Trial examining a solution for patients with spinal cord injury.
The 401-bed acute care hospital has more than 500 faculty physicians. Here are five things to know about the new trial:
1. Patrick Hsieh, MD, was named the principal investigator at the site. He is the director of the neurosurgery spine program and an associate professor of neurological surgery at the hospital.
2. This is an ongoing clinical trial and the company will soon reopen the trial for concurrent enrollment of the final three patients.
3. This is the first clinical study of the Neuro-Spinal Scaffold which has FDA approval and is designed for patients who have spinal cord injuries.
4. Keck Hospital of USC's urban location and multidisciplinary team of experienced sub-investigators will bring benefit to the research trial.
5. When this five-patient study is complete, InVivo plans to conduct another study to obtain FDA approval to commercialize under a Humanitarian Device Exemption.
