Here are eight things for spinal surgeons to know for Feb. 26, 2015.

MIS instruments market to grow to $14.13 billion by 2019
The market is currently valued at $10.52 billion and it is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.1 percent from 2014 to 2019. The handheld instruments segment accounted for the largest share — 31.6 percent — of the global MIS instruments market in 2014.

 

Spineology sued Wright Medical Technology
Spineology alleged that Wright Medical's X-REAM percutaneous expandable reamer infringes on its "Expandable Reamer" patent. Spineology sold 50 of its expandable reamers to Wright Medical in 2006 but didn't include a license to the patent in the sale. The patent for the "Expandable Reamer" was reissued to Spineology in September 2011.


 
NuVasive's 2014 revenue up 11.3%
NuVasive reported net income at $20 million on a non-GAAP basis, or $0.39 per share, for the fourth quarter of 2014. For the full year, the net income on a non-GAAP basis was $57.5 million, or $1.16 per share. This is relatively flat over 2013.

 

FDA advisory panel signals support for VertiFlex's Superion Interspinous Spacer System
VertiFlex announced that the FDA's Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Devices Advisory Panel voted in support of the premarket approval application for its Superion Interspinous Spacer System. The panel voted that Superion demonstrated safety and effectiveness, as well as a favorable risk benefit profile based on its IDE trial.

 

Study examines ACDF vs. posterior cervical foraminotomy reoperation rates
There were 790 patients included in the study — 627 ACDF patients and 163 PCF patients. There was a 4.8 percent reoperation rate at the index level for the ACDF group. For the PCF group, the index level reoperation rate was 6.4 percent two years after surgery.

 

Nasdaq to Amedica: Higher stock price necessary to stay listed
The Nasdaq Listings Qualifications department sent Amedica a letter saying the minimum bid price per share for its common stock was below $1 for 30 consecutive business days, meaning the company didn't meet the minimum bid price required in the Nasdaq Listing Rule. Amedica stock will not be immediately unlisted; the stock will continue to trade uninterrupted under AMDA.

 

International Journal of Spine Surgery now on PubMed
PubMed Central will now include results from the International Journal of Spine Surgery, the journal of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery. The publication's authors and reviewers have worked for several years to include the journal in PubMed results.

 

CMS extends MU attestation deadline for eligible professionals
Eligible professionals now have until March 20 to attest meaningful use for the 2014 EHR incentive program. CMS has extended the original deadline from Feb. 28 but urges providers to begin attesting for 2014 as soon as they can, according to a news release.
