Aesculap introduces new PLIF system — 5 key points

Spine

Aesculap implant systems introduced the ProSpaceXP Interbody System for posterior lateral interbody fusion procedures.

"Due to the optimized surface coating, the device supports excellent interbody fit and also long term bony apposition," said Boyle C. Cheng, PhD, author of a recent study on this device.

Here are five quick facts about the technology:

1. It includes two materials — the Plasmapore XP osteoconductive porous Titanium coating and PEEK Optima radiolucent core — for enhanced implant stability.

2. The implant has artifact-free imaging and an osteoconductive scaffold for fusion procedures. The system combines aggressive teeth and the PlasmaporeXP surface coating to enhance implant stability and migration resistance.

3. Aesculap released a study recently showing PlasmaporeXP coated implants have significantly greater pullout strength and bony in-growth when compared to PEEK implants at 12 weeks and 24 weeks.

4. The system comes in more than 40 implant sizes to accommodate varying patient anatomies.

5. The PlasmaporeXP coating clearly delineates implant contours during imaging along with X-ray marker pins for intraoperative positioning verification.
