NASS names new president - 5 things to know about Dr. Heidi Prather

The North American Spine Society named Heidi Prather, DO, president at the annual meeting in San Francisco.

Dr. Prather is a physiatrist from St. Louis. "I am honored to be a leader of the largest multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to assisting spine specialists in providing the best possible care for people with spine disorders," she said. "NASS has many opportunities to impact healthcare in the coming year."

 

Those opportunities include:

 

  • Launching a spine registry and member distinction program to track patient outcomes and identify members providing evidence-based spine care.
  • Shaping healthcare policy by responding to government and third party payer inquiries regarding coverage.
  • Broadening coverage recommendation guidelines.
  • Expanding influence on government policymakers.
  • Facilitating reserach to advance spinal disorder treatment and diagnosis.
  • Growing educational resources for spine care providers.

 

Here are five things to know about Dr. Prather:

 

1. She earned her medical degree at the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Mo. She completed her residency in physcial medicine and rehabilitation at The Rehabilitaion Institute of Chicago, Northwestern University Medical School.

 

2. She is currently the chief of the section for physical medicine and rehabilitation at Washington University School of Medicine in the orthopedic surgery department.

 

3. In addition to a certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation, Dr. Prather is also certified in sports medicine.

 

4. She is the sports medicine fellowship co-director and director of the Chesterfield Orthopaedic Spine Center.

 

5. Dr. Prather is the team consultant for the St. Louis Rams and St. Louis Blues in addition to other local athletic teams.

 

Dr. Prather is a board member for the newly-launched North Americna Spine Founation and chairs the musculoskeletal reserach committee for the American Foundation of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
