Allegheny Health Network Names Dr. Donald Whiting Neurosurgery Chairman: 4 Things to Know

Allegheny Health Network announced Donald Whiting, MD, will take over as neurosurgery chairmen, according to a TribLive report.

Here are five things to know about the appointment:

 

1. A search committee moved to unanimously select Dr. Whiting for the chairmanship.

 

2. During his tenure, Dr. Whiting is expected to expand neurosurgery services across AHN facilities, including outpatient centers. AHN currently employs around 200 people in neurosurgery services.

 

3. Dr. Whiting currently directs the Center for Spasticity and Movement Disorders and Division of Neuromodulation at AGH. Dr. Whiting has spent the past 17 years as vice chairman of neurosurgery at AGH.

 

4. Insurer Highmark formed AHN last year from the West Penn Allegheny system, emphasizing a unified system and streamlining care. "We have a lot of talented people," said Dr. Whiting n the report. "When we put it together, the whole is much more beneficial than the parts individually."
