5 Things to Know About the New AANS Vice President Dr. Gail Rosseau

The American Association of Neurological Surgeons named Gail L. Rosseau, MD, FAANS, vice president.

 

Here are five things to know about Dr. Rosseau:

 

1. She is a neurosurgeon at NorthShore University HealthSystem. "I would like to be part of advancing all the goals of AANS," she said in an AANS press release. "My background perhaps makes me especially suited to be able to help move forward the goals of increased international communication and diffusion of knowledge of neuroscience."

 

2. Dr. Rosseau sits on the executive board of the AANS/Congress of Neurological Surgeons Joint Section on Women in Neurosurgery and has held leadership roles with the World Federation of Neurological Societies and Neurological Society of French Language. She is one of more than 300 female neurosurgeons in the United States.

 

3. Among her clinical interests, Dr. Rosseau cites head-injury prevention and advocacy, cranial-based surgery and advancing research for Alzheimer's disease. She has published more than 50 medical articles and given more than 60 international lectures. Her lectures in the United States tally more than 175.

 

4. In 2008 Dr. Rosseau was considered for the position of U.S. Surgeon General. She has also been an examiner for the American Board of Neurological Surgery and a member of the USA Football Medical Advisory Committee. In 2013, she was selected to join the USA Football board of directors.

 

5. Dr. Rosseau graduated from George Washington University Medical School and completed her general surgery internship and neurosurgery residency there as well. Her additional training fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh and Val de Grace Hospital in Paris.
