Houston Orthopedic and Spine Hospital, Dr. Richard Francis Purchase First Renaissance Robotic Spine Surgery System

Mazor Robotics has signed a purchasing agreement for the first Renaissance robotic spine surgery system with Richard R. M. Francis, MD, of Spine Associates of Houston and the Houston Orthopedic and Spine Hospital (formerly Foundation Surgical Hospital in Bellaire, Texas), according to a Mazor news release. The Renaissance is Mazor's next generation robotic guidance system for spine surgery. Dr. Francis has an expertise in scoliosis and deformity correction, which he will begin to perform with the Renaissance system at Houston Orthopedic and Spine Hospital before the end of the year.

The system includes a robotic device that mounts above the patient's spine and a workstation running advanced surgical planning software. The system is clinically proven to increase the accuracy of spinal implants.
