A recent article from MedPage Today examines physician spouses, featuring pediatric neurosurgeon David Sandberg, MD, and his wife, Amy Schefler, MD, who is a pediatric ocular oncologist.

The article examines the advantages and hardships of being married to a physician. Dr. Sandberg and Dr. Schefler discussed the advantages of both partners being physicians — with one of the major benefits being both partners understand what the other goes through on a daily basis.

Dr. Sandberg and his wife were married in residency and "the only honeymoon they had was when they got to hang out in the surgical room together." He is now the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Mischer Neuroscience Institute of Memorial Hermann and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
