Here are five recent spine and neurosurgeon achievements and appointments.

Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak, Mich., recently created the Harry N. Herkowitz, M.D., Distinguished Chair in Orthopaedics, and Jeffrey Fischgrund, MD, is the first appointee.

 

Allegheny Health Network named Donald Whiting, MD, neurosurgery chairmen.

 

Ramin Rak, MD, was elected treasurer of the Suffolk County Medical Society.

 

Roger Härtl, MD, and his spine team in collaboration with Larry Bonassar, PhD, and his biomedical engineering team, of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York have been named the 2014 winners of the Ronald Apfelbaum Research Award, presented by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves.

 

OrthoCarolina's Bruce V. Darden II, MD, was inducted as 2014 president of the Cervical Spine Research Society.
