5 Things to Know About 2014 Cervical Spine Research Society President Dr. Bruce Darden

OrthoCarolina's Bruce V. Darden II, MD, has been inducted as 2014 president of the Cervical Spine Research Society.

Dr. Darden was inducted as the 41st president during the Society's annual meeting last year. Here are five things to know about Dr. Darden:

 

1. Dr. Darden is a partner at the OrthoCarolina Spine Center in Charlotte, N.C., and serves as director of the spine surgery fellowship at OrthoCarolina. The practice includes several providers and locations in North Carolina and recently opened an ambulatory surgery center.

 

2. In addition to serving as a member of CSRS since 1992, Dr. Darden is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, Lumbar Spine Research Society and Scoliosis Research Society.

 

3. Dr. Darden earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at Carolinas Medical Center. His additional training includes a fellowship in spine surgery at Baylor College of Medicine.

 

4. In 2013, Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital, Novant Health, presented Dr. Darden with the Physician of the Year award. He has also been named among the US News & World Report Top Doctors.

 

5. Dr. Darden participated in a prospective, randomized controlled investigational device exemption study comparing ProDisc-C and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. The study included 24 and 48 month follow up results and the paper received the Best Clinical Paper Award at the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery annual meeting.
